Confirm You Dial-Up Settings Are Correct
This tutorial is going to go over all the important setting within your dialup connectoid so that you can confirm that all the settings are correct, The result of this tutorial will either be A. You connect next time B.you now know its not the settings that are the problem.
Step One
Click Start and Click Control Panel
Or
Hold down the Windows key and press R then type in Control Panel and click Ok.
Step Two
Make sure you are in Classic view
If it says "switch to category view" you are in classic view
If it says "switch to classic view" then you need to click it once.
Step Three
Scroll down in Control Panel until you find Network Connections
Then Double Click Network Connections.
Step Four
Right Click the Dial-Up connection in question and select Properties.
Step Five
Make sure you have the correct Modem selected
If this is greyed out move on to step six, you will only be able to change this modem if
you have more then one dial-up modem installed
Step Six
Make sure Use dialing Rules is UN-Checked
Check that the Phone Number is Correct.
Remember, this phone number would have been supplied to you by your ISP
Step Seven
Select the Options Tab
Step Eight
Three Dialing Options should be checked, they are:
Display progress while connecting
Prompt for name and password, certificate, etc.
Prompt for phone number

Step Nine
The Default settings for Redialing Options are fine, although you can change them if you
wish to your personal preferences.
Default settings are:-
Redial attempts: 3
Time between redial attempts: 1 Minute
Idle time before hanging up: 20 Minute
Redial if line is dropped: Checked
Step Ten
Select the Security Tab.
Step Eleven
Make sure that Typical(recommended settings) is selected.
and ensure that Validate my identity as follows is set to
Allow Unsecured Password
anything else in this tab should not be selected, check image below.
Step Twelve
Select the Networking Tab.
Step Thirteen
Make sure that Type of dial-up server I am calling is set to:
PPP: Windows 95/98/NT4/2000, Internet
Step Fourteen
Ensure that Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is Checked.
Step Fifthteen
Click OK to save all the changes if any.
Step Sixteen
Close Network connections.
Finished!
Now that you have completed this tutorial all of the settings in your dial-up connection
should not be correct, so try to connect again and hopefully this time you should be
successful.
