Reinstall Dial-Up Networking - Resetting TCP/IP

TCP/IP dia-up networking cannot be uninstalled in windows xp but we are able to use a NetShell command to refresh the DUN settings. This is very useful if you are experiencing quite a modem error while attempting to connect to the Internet. the command that we are going to use gives the impression to your computer that dial-up networking has been reinstalled,by refreshing the tcp/ip stack its basically the equivalent to reinstalling therefor giving the same effect.



Step One

Click Start and Select Run
or
Hold down the Windows key and press R.

Step Two

Type cmd in the Run Command dialog box and Click ok.

Step Three

In the new window which has just opened type in:
netsh int ip reset c:\tcpipreset.txt
then press the Enter key

Step Four

Please do not be alarmed if the window freezes for a few seconds this is normal, when you command is completed you will know because the cursor will drop down to the next line as you can see in the image below.

Step Five

Close the command console by typing exit and press the Enter key
Sometimes you may need to repeat this step as it might not close first time!

Reboot your computer, How to reboot

Step Six

Once your computer has rebooted try and connect again, if the error/issue that you was receiving was because of the tcp/ip stack (DUN) dial-up networking then you should now be able to connect fine.
