Protect your Monitor with a Screen Saver
Screen savers are provided by default with Windows XP for preventive maintenance reasons, more so for older CRT monitors. Because after an screen has been on for a long time without a screen saver the image could become burnt to the screen giving you a ghost affect which would cause you discomfort and confusion while using your computer.
Hence why screen savers come with your operating system they protect against such things happening by keeping the images on the your screen moving all the time therefor keeping such things as "ghost images" from happening and prolong the life of your monitor.
Step One
Click on Start and select Run
Or
Hold down the windows key and press 'R'
Step Two
Type control desktop then click OK.
Step Three
Click on the Screen Saver Tab.
Step Four
Select a Screen Saver from the list provided.
Step Five
Click on Preview to see how your Screen Saver will look.
To come back out of the screen saver just move your mouse.
Step Six
Set the amount of time you want the computer to wait "when idle" until the screen saver comes on. Time format is in minutes.
Step Seven
Click Apply.
Step Eight
Click OK.
That's it!
The Screen Saver you select is not set to come on after the time you selected when your computer is not in use. Remember to get out of the screen saver just move your mouse. Here's to your monitor lasting a few years long then the rest!
