How To Disable System Restore In Windows XP
Its a good idea to Disable System Restore before you remove viruses from your computer, if you don't then you run the risk of being infected by the same virus over and over again as its still stored on your computer and if you ever have to restore to this point you WILL be infected again unless you disable system restore before you remove the virus.
This tutorial will walk you thought the steps of disabling windows xp system restore then at the bottom of this tutorial you will find a a link to a tutorial showing you how to Enable system restore in windows xp.
PLEASE NOTE: when you disable system restore all previous restore points will be removed (Gone Forever) that is why once you have done what you need to do you should once again enable system restore. Unless of course you are following this tutorial to disable system restore permanently.
Step One
Click on start and Right Click My Computer and select Properties.
If you don't see My Computer in the start menu then My Computer will be located on your desktop, this all depends on your current display settings.
Step Two
Click on the System Restore tab.
If at this point you don't see a System Restore tab then you are NOT logged in as Administrator, before you can complete this tutorial you will need to log in as Administrator
Step Three
Check Turn off System Restore.
Step Four
Click Apply.
Step Five
Click Yes on the dialog box that appears
Once you have clicked yes the window my hang for a moment as your computer disables system restore, don't be alarmed this is normal
Step Six
Click Ok.
Well Done!
You have now Disabled System Restore, all old restore points have now been erased. You are free to remove any viruses that you have now, as now the virus will be completely removed from your computer.
